ABOUT US

How we started:

In 2000, two volunteers in a low income animal hospital in East Los Angeles saw the staggering number of dogs and cats abandoned by owners, dumped on the street and at the pounds, and they could not turn their backs. Instead, they started Poochville Animal Rescue.

Our goal was to save adoptable animals from being euthanized in our city's shelters, to find these once-forgotten animals homes where they could become cherished family members. Over the years, we grew into a force, with countless volunteers and hundreds of successful adoptions.

However the sad truth is that there was no way for our organization and the others like us throughout L.A. to take care of all the homeless pets. It is too big of a problem and we can¹t keep up. Every day in our city beautiful adoptable dogs and cats go through the horror of being dragged to their death unnoticed, unloved and alone.

So our new mission aside from hands on rescue work, is to incorporate animal education and awareness to our city and across the nation. For that we needed a vehicle to gain momentum to help spread the word. That vehicle is the Rescue Train.

Who We Are today:

The Rescue Train is a unique, nonprofit 501c3, no kill organization that is dedicated to education and to eliminating animal suffering and euthanasia in Los Angeles.

It is our mission to reduce the number of animals entering shelters by promoting education through creating unique programs and solutions. Including awareness, community involvement and events, responsible pet ownership, support for the Good Samaritan who rescues an animal, dog training, spaying and neutering and supported adoptions, and support for other rescue groups.

Join our army

We believe that not only in our own city of Los Angeles, (The City of Angels), but across the country, is an army of animal lovers. Our goal is to unite them so we can make some real changes to eliminate euthanasia once and for all.

Why We Are Different?

The animals in our care: We make a serious commitment to each animal who enters our family. By concentrating on manageable numbers of the rescues we have in our care, our turn around time and success rate for adoptions is high. We feel it¹s detrimental for a dog to spend years in a kennel waiting to be adopted. Each dog who comes to us gets his or her turn to be showcased through newspaper adds, flyers, community and adoption days, and Internet campaigns.

We take the guess work out of adopting:

We spend time to get to know our animals and their needs and behaviors so potential adopters will know what to expect. We come with education and solutions to integrate your pet into your new home.

Our animals get the best of medical care:

We often take animals that have special needs or extra medical care and nurse them back to health. Every animal is spayed, neutered, vaccinated and micro chipped. Each animal that crosses our path gets evaluated and a program is made for them to have a successful adoption.

We Believe that Dog training is the Key to Successful adoptions!

A high number of animals are turned into city shelters because of lack of basic obedience training. A dog has the capacity to learn and change it¹s behavior. Many of our dogs are taken through a six week obedience class with dog trainer Julie Iles. Dogs that need more extensive training, attend 3 week training camp at Blue Dog Ranch. Our adopters are encouraged to continue that training and classes are offered for those who would like to attend.

Each adopted animal has a team of people behind them for support.

We are available to answer questions, offer education and support with your new pet. The animal always has a home with us if it doesn¹t work out, in fact it is in our contract.

Why We Do It?
